France focused two thirds of their attack in the channels close to the breakdown at Loftus Versfeld last week, but they found much more reward by running at South Africa’s backs.
According to Rugby Analytics, the Springboks missed 24 of 147 attempted tackles for a mediocre 84 percent tackle-rate. Half of those missed tackles were leaked close to the ruck. What is interesting is that 64% of the French attack was focused in that area.
This means that the Boks missed the remaining 50% of their tackles between midfield and the wide channels where only one third of France’s attack was aimed. Let’s hope they plug those holes in Durban!
