Good times…

After a 2-1 start to the 2017 Super Rugby season, the Sharks added two more SA derby victories before stumbling into the Lions’ den!

In Round 4, Kings flyhalf Lionel Cronje missed a long-range penalty in the last minute of play to let the Sharks off the hook in Durban.

One week later, Kobus van Wyk scored two tries as the Sharks mounted a successful comeback to beat the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

But a Van Wyk try wasn’t enough to rescue the Sharks from the Lions at Ellis Park in Round 6 – Jaco Kriel scored the winner in a pulsating 34-29 win for the eventual SA champions.

Funny, you have overlooked the controversial refereeing that took place in the Ellis park clash, that neatly guided things into a home semi for the Lions, rather than an away semi for the Sharks. A sad day, when administrative interference and financial greed, left the beauty of sport in the dust!

A rather narrow minded way of thinking, Barry

Lions fought hard all season and deserved to host the final. They have been the best team in SA by far.

Your Sharks, dear Barry, struggled at the best of times and at the worst. Remember successive record losses to the Crusaders at King’s Park? Or is that also SARU’s fault?

The refereeing controversy is well documented, there is no disputing that! Play-off are just that, about the best team on and not about how the teams got there!
