‘It was amazing’ – Ackermann

Lions captain Jaco Kriel praised his side’s fighting spirit after their 44-29 victory over the Hurricanes in their Super Rugby semi-final in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The home side trailed the 2016 champions 10-22 at half-time but launched a stunning second-half comeback to clinch the result and in doing so set up a final against the Crusaders in Johannesburg next weekend.

“This is the best feeling I have felt in a long time,” said Kriel.

“To see character come out like that from a bunch of guys that care for each other… I don’t think I can explain the feeling of being on the field and being inspired by your own players like I was today.”

Lions coach Johan Ackerman echoed his captain’s sentiments and singled out the Ellis Park crowd for special praise.

“When the tries came we could feel the energy,” he said of his team’s passionate supporters.

“It was just an amazing day today.”

I am sure all you experts will think up of something new to run the Lions down with now.
Oh like the yellow card was sooooooooo contravertial. The canes were done in by it . And and and.

That second half charge was something that will be talked about around the braai for years to come!
And even if BB didn’t get sent off, we still would have ended up scoring some points in those 10 minutes anyway. We had all the momentum, the guys were getting over the gain line everytime, was just an unstoppable effort. The ‘Canes had no answers and were taking HUGE breaths under their posts. If they had 16 players on the field we still would have run over them. Maybe not by 15points, but we’d still be in the final.
I just hope that the final has 15-a-side for the full game, really really hope for that!
