Munster attack coach Felix Jones has rejected an offer from SA Rugby director of rugby Rassie Erasmus to join the Springboks as a skills coach.
According to the Irish Independent, the 30-year-old former Munster fullback, whose playing career was cut short by a neck injury, was approached by Erasmus to follow fellow Munster coach Aled Walters to Cape Town.
“The Irish Independent understands that Walters was not the only member of Munster’s backroom team that Erasmus targeted in an audacious swoop, with Jones being his main target,” said the report.
“Erasmus had lined up Jones as the Boks skills coach but having signed a new two-year contract with Munster last summer, the former fullback rejected his advances and will continue as Munster’s backs and attack coach.”
Also included in the report, Erasmus “is the driving force behind a potential Munster v Springboks clash at Thomond Park, which is currently being discussed”.
