Mapimpi streaks into Stats XV

Kings finisher Makazole Mapimpi made his second appearance in the Stats XV, and this time the Raters kept him there.

Mapimpi’s Stats XV debut was spoiled in Round 8 when the Raters hauled him off the bus with the shepherds hook to make way for Cheetahs finisher Raymond Rhule. There are no farm tools around this week as the Kings flyer streaked into the weekly dream team – chosen according to our stats algorithm, which is weighted by position – and also won the Raters’ vote for the No 11 jersey.

Mapimpi broke off 161 metres on just eight runs, thanks to three linebreaks and two broken tackles, and he made all his tackles as the Kings logged a resounding 44-3 win against the visiting Rebels. That contribution earned him a 6.9 Rating to deny Lions counterpart Courtnall Skosan (6.6).

Nizaam Carr’s 4.2 grade was not good enough to deny Lions skipper Warren Whiteley (6.6). The Stormers were rag-dolled by the Highlanders in Dunedin, and Carr did his best to push back by carrying the load with 1 try from 15 runs for 103 metres and 18 tackles, including one turnover won.

Arguably the best SA performer of Round 10 was Lions lock Franco Mostert (6.4) who trucked the ball up seven times for 44 metres, lined up for 13 tackles, and won 11 lineouts, one of which was on the enemy feed!
