More pain for Esterhuizen

The Kings were a shining light on an otherwise dark weekend of rugby for South African Vodacom Super Rugby teams, and as such their “Tower of the turnover”, the man deemed surplus to company requirements by the Stormers, open side flank extraordinaire, Chris Cloete picks up the MVP of the week award – via a rating of 7.3 out of 10.

The All Out Rugby player ratings allow fans to vent (or high five) a little on Sunday and Monday mornings by rating the SA players out of ten. Every user rating then contributes to the official All Out Rugby Player Ratings – which close at midnight on a Monday – for the round.

Cloete tops the comp stats in turnovers won and turnovers from tackles, and has been an absolute machine for the PE side. It’s great to see his performance recognised by Joe Rater here on All Out Rugby. He is thus named the AOR MVP of the week.

At the other end of the rating scale, in recognition for one of the most unsavoury incidents seen in our domestic rugby, Sharks centre Andre Esterhuizen cops a rating of 2.1 out of 10 from fans. This no doubt massively influenced by the tip tackle on Rebels wing Sefanaia Naivalu in the 17th minute of the game – for which he get not only a red card, but a six week suspension.

To add to the pain, Esterhuizen is thus also rated the All Out Rugby Moegoe of the week.

Sharks coach Rob du Preez suggested his players reimburse the Kings Park fans, so turgid was the performance of his team against the Rebels on Saturday night, but Mr Rater reckons he might have to cop some of the blame himself. On a rating of 3.4, he even nudges perennial bottom feeder, Bulls coach Nollis Marais, out of last place in the coach ratings.

It was not pretty between the white lines, and the ratings reflect that.

You can also have a little fun by comparing the various ratings using the drop down menu. Have a look at how the Sharks fans rated the players in comparison with Lions fans, or perhaps compare the girls and boys ratings!

Andre Esterhuizen fully deserves the Moegoe Award! That was a brain-fart of note…

  • Steve

Chris Cloete has stood out in just about every game he’s played for the past 2 years, including against NZ teams. Surely he deserves a shot at the Boks.
