Raters flay De Allende and Coetzee

Bok inside centre Damian de Allende feels the wrath of Joe Rater following their shambolic implosion in Dublin, but it’s coach Allister Coetzee who takes the most heat.

The All Out Rugby player ratings allow fans to vent (or high five) a little on Sunday and Monday mornings by rating the Bok players and coach out of ten. Every user rating then contributes to the official All Out Rugby Player Ratings – which close at midnight on a Monday.

Via a rating of just 0.8, no doubt influenced by the truly inept kick ahead when he had men outside him and the tryline beckoning, along with an inability to get anything going for the visitors out back, De Allende picks up the lowest player rating of the week. Jesse Kriel and Courtnall Skosan were next worst on ratings of 2.5 out of 10.

But it is Coetzee who takes home the official Moegoe of the week. His tragic rating of just 0.7 out of 10 is the lowest of the week, and indicative of the frustration being felt by South African rugby fans.

2017, while marginally better than 2016, has not been good to Coetzee, and in Dublin he notched up another two milestones that he will not want on his rugby CV:

  • Most points conceded (38) against Ireland in 111 years, beating the 32 scored by the Irish in Dublin in 2006
  • Biggest margin of defeat (35) beating the previous mark of 17 in both 2006 (32-15) and 2014 (29-12)

At the more pleasant end of the rating scale, it’s again Lions hooker Malcolm Marx who takes home the official MVP of the week award via a rating of 5.3. On a day to be forgotten, though, it did not take much. Marx made 7 carries, pilfered one ball, made 2 tackles, and missed another!

Next best according to Joe Rater were Pieter-Steph du Toit and Andries Coetzee on ratings of 4.4.

Off the bench it was also not very pretty. Steven Kitshoff, Wilco Louw, and Francois Venter (on ratings of 3.7) were deemed to have had the biggest impact on the game.

You can also have a little fun by comparing the various ratings using the drop down menu. Have a look at how the boys rated the players in comparison with girls, or perhaps compare the Stormers fans ratings to those of the Lions fans.

This week, the ladies differed from the men in all departments. Du Toit took their MVP on 5.3 out of 10, while their Moegoe award went to Skosan on rating of 3.2. And they had no issues at all with De Allende, rating him a more than solid 4.5 out of 10! Men are from Mars, they say!

And look at who tops the “most tackles made” and “most carries made” stats. It is none other than the man discarded by Springbok rugby as being too small for international rugby. Oh how we would love to have him in our team now…
