Raters lash Dreyer and Coetzee

Lions tighthead prop Ruan Dreyer feels the wrath of Joe Rater following the draw against the Aussies in Bloem, but it’s coach Allister Coetzee who takes the most heat.

The All Out Rugby Player Ratings allow fans to vent (or high five) a little on Sunday and Monday mornings by rating the Bok players and coach out of ten. Every user Rating then contributes to the official All Out Rugby Player Ratings – which close at midnight on a Monday.

With a Player Rating of just 3.6 – quite obviously influenced by the scrum penalties he incurred, along with an inability to assert any sort of dominance in the set piece – Dreyer picks up the lowest Player Rating of the week. (Uz Cassiem got a lower rating but given how early in the piece he was injured, we are not counting it – Ed).

But it is Coetzee who takes home the official Moegoe of the Week award. His Rating of 2.7 out of 10, quite amazingly a full 1.8 rating points up on his post-Albany grade, is the lowest of the week, and indicative of South African rugby fans’ frustration.

At the more pleasant end of the Ratings scale, it’s Lions hooker Malcolm Marx who takes home the official AOR MVP award. With the lineout simplified, the Boks won 13 on their own throw and pinched one of the Wallaby feeds. This then freed up the abrasive hooker to do what he does best – make a nuisance of himself at the breakdown and carve off metres with ball in hand.

Off the bench, it was Sharks loosie Jean-Luc du Preez who impressed, making the most of a much longer stint on the field given Cassiem’s injury. His physicality was key to the Bok game plan and he notched up an impressive Rating of 6.2 out of 10.

You can also have a little fun by comparing the various Ratings using the drop down menu. Have a look at how the boys rated the players in comparison with girls, or perhaps compare the Stormers fans Ratings to those of the Lions fans.
