Raters rob Pieter-Steph to play Paul

The Player Raters have binned Stats XV flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit in favour of Kings blindsider Tyler Paul for his efforts in Round 9 of Super Rugby.

Four South Africans got call ups to the Stats XV, including the Stormers’ Du Toit, the Lions duo of fullback Andries Coetzee and captain Warren Whiteley, and Sharks jumper Stephan Lewies.

Coetzee (6.8) and Whiteley (6.9) were unanimous selections, though Kings fullback Maxisole Banda was right on Coetzee’s heels with a 6.6.

Lewies registered a 4.5 for his efforts during a dismal 9-9 stalemate against the Rebels, and he was overtaken by Cheetahs tower Carl Wegner (4.6), Kings No 5 Wilhelm van der Sluys (6.9) and the Raters’ choice, Lions lock Franco Mostert (7.0).

Du Toit did not impress the Raters who tagged him with a lowly 4.5 after the Stormers’ biggest loss against the Crusaders. But the reverse was true of Paul who drew cheers and applause to score a healthy 6.3 after the Kings’ famous 26-24 win against the Waratahs in Sydney.
