The Cheetahs have given the Free State their golden moment as they reclaim the Currie Cup title which they last won in 2007 with a 36-16 victory over the Blue Bulls in the final in Bloemfontein. 1 minAdding spice to the clash, is the intense rivalry between the teams as they met in back-to-back Currie Cup finals from 2004 to 2006, with each side winning one, while the other match ended in a draw.

1 minlooking at the history of Currie Cup finals between these teams, it’s clear the Free State Cheetahs will have their work cut out for them. The Blue Bulls have won seven of the nine previous finals between the sides from 1973 to 2009, while the teams shared the title in 2006 after playing to a 28-28 draw after an exhausting 100 minutes of rugby.

1 minVictory for the Free State Cheetahs will not only earn them their first title since 2007, it would also mark their 10th straight win this season.

1 minThe last time these teams met the Free State Cheetahs claimed a deserved 43-20 victory when these sides met at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein in Round Two of the league phase of the Currie Cup Premier Division in August. The Cheetahs outscored their visitors by six tries to two and led 24-10 at half-time. The highlight of the encounter came just before the break when Cheetahs prop Ox Nche showed a superb turn of speed from the halfway line before crossing for a deserved try.

1 minJason Jenkins will start at lock for the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup Final against the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein. Jenkins replaces the injured RG Snyman in the only change to the starting team that edged Western Province in their semi-final last weekend. His place on the bench will be taken by Nic de Jager. Ulrich Beyers also recovered in time from his shoulder knock and has been declared fit to start at full-back.

1 minFree State Cheetahs coach Franco Smith has made one change to his run-on side for the Currie Cup final against the Blue Bulls in Bloemfontein. The only alteration, from the side that beat the Golden Lions 55-17 in their semi-final last weekend, is in the forwards where Charles Marais replaces Ox Nche at loosehead prop. Nche sustained a leg injury against the Lions and felt discomfort at training this week, but has been included on the replacements bench. Flanker Paul Schoeman and centre Nico Lee have also been included in the starting line-up after both players recovered in time from ankle niggles.
