The darkest day in Bok history

A 2017 Rugby Championship campaign that will be remembered for South Africa’s biggest ever defeat also featured a pair of thrilling stalemates and a brave loss at home against the All Blacks.

South Africa made a winning start to the Rugby Championship with Elton Jantjies converting seven goal-kicks in a four-try, 37-15 victory against the Pumas in Port Elizabeth.

The Boks stretched their hot streak to six wins – their first on the road in 2017 – when Siya Kolisi scored two tries to secure a 41-23 win against Argentina in Salta.

In Round 3, Bernard Foley kicked a late penalty to hold the Boks to a 23-23 stalemate in Perth.

September 16, 2017 marks the darkest day in Springbok history. South Africa failed to score a single point, conceding eight tries against the All Blacks to lose 57-0 in Albany.

South Africa had to settle for a 27-27 draw with Australia after Elton Jantjies failed to convert a last-minute penalty in Bloemfontein.
